The story behind TCUK

With over 51 years of camping experience under his belt, Richard Burgin has explored it all - from tents and trailer tents to caravans. For him, camping has always been about more than just pitching up; it’s about making memories, forming friendships, and embracing the great outdoors.

In 2017, Richard joined Leeds DA to enjoy the social side of camping. His passion led him to serve on the committee, first as a Youth Leader and later as Chairman. While these years were filled with great times and strong friendships, he often found that unnecessary red tape and restrictions got in the way of what truly mattered - bringing people together and making the most of every camping experience. He envisioned something different - an inclusive, forward-thinking camping community built on fun, friendship, and freedom.

In 2023, that vision became a reality when Richard, alongside a small group of like-minded friends, founded Top Camping UK in Yorkshire. Their goal? To create a club that puts people first - where outdated formalities don’t stand in the way, and the focus is on shared experiences, laughter, and a true sense of community. The response was overwhelming, with campers embracing the fresh, welcoming approach. Soon after, the North East and Midlands Areas were formed, expanding opportunities for members to enjoy even more meets across the country.

What’s next for TCUK? The future is unwritten, but one thing’s for sure - wherever it goes, it will always be grey and orange, and full of adventure.
